Terrible service. My family and I walked right in and sat down, since there was no Hostess at the front to greet or seat us. We sat at the table for about 10 minutes, were ignored by 2 different waitresses that wouldn't even make eye contact to let us know that they at least acknowledge the fact that we were there, so we just got up and left. We stayed in Town for 3 days and never bothered to try again. My money is better spent elsewhere.

This place used to be called Oregon Short Line. A group of 3 went there for dinner. We had meatloaf prepared with elk, bison and beef; prime rib, med rare; and the Big Sky Burger. As a free snack, they bring out home made potato chips that were excellent. All three entres were very good. Meatloaf was very tasty being made with different meats. Prime rib was prepared as ordered and flavorful. Burger was good. A side dish was smoked mac and cheese. The cheese was not cheddar and hard to place, it tasted different than I expected. We also got jalapeno corn bread, biscuits, and wheat bread. All were very good. For dessert we had the Skookie. It was a skillet cooked choclate chip cookie with ice cream. I loved it. Food was very good, server was very fiendly and helpful. I recommend eating there and will eat there again myself.

The positives - The restaurant is very nice, the waitress was very pleasant and gave us great service. The negatives - The food was not so great. I ordered the prime rib. I paid $27 for a really crapy piece of meat. The "prime rib" was very tough. I have never tried eating the bottom of my shoe but I assume it would probably have tasted better than my steak. My wife and i went here the night we checked into our hotel because it was convenient. What a mistake. I should have checked the reviews first.

We had dinner in the bar so we could watch some NFL football. We enjoyed the food quality and found the facilities to very more than satisfactory. The only reason that I didn't rate it higher is that they were understaffed and the only waitress was running her legs off. We would go back.

Overpriced...below average service...tried the bison burger...burger was undercooked, and the fries were probably the worst I've ever had. Won't be back.

This restaurant was not at all what I expected. I got the ribeye which was mostly fat. I got the chipolte aioli that tasted and looked like tarter sauce. It was extremely over priced and didn't even come with a salad. My son got Mac n cheese I'm pretty sure it was Kraft straight out of the box. The blue cheese Burger did not even come with the blue cheese. The server was nice but not knowledgeable. The only good part was the kids' meals happen to be free that day. I will never eat at this place ever again.

Had dinner and breakfast here, and both were quite bad and overpriced. Canned mushrooms for omelets and breakfast skillets? Really? Biscuits that are seaworthy for 3 months of storage?

Was hesitant to eat here after reading reviews. Went anyways because they have a GF menu which is necessary for my husband. This restaurant is good. It is a nice place with a bar and big screen TVs. I had a half order of bison stroganoff. Hubby had bison chili and half salad. All were very good. The half orders were more rhan enough food. My pasta was loaded with meat. They also serve you homemade chips. Yes, it's a bit pricey but, it is a tourist town at the gateway of Yellowstone Park.

Yellowstone wings is delicious and Yellow stone ice tea is so good. Yellowstone iron steak I feel it's cooked too well, maybe I should order medium rare is better.

Went here with a few friends for a nice dinner after hearing it was one of the nicer restaurants in town, and had a pleasurable dining experience. I started out with an alcoholic drink, a Mountain Manhattan, which the bartender made very strong. All I could taste was whiskey, but it was a good deal since it was not watered down at all. And at seven bucks, it's comparable to any other bar in town. Not the best drink I've had, but it still did the job. I ordered the Burn Ban Bison Burger, which was supposed to be very spicy. It had jalapenos, blue cheese and a spicy sauce on the side for the waffle fries. The spiciest part of the meal was the sauce, and even then, it was pretty tame. I was a bit let down, since I was trying to prove my manliness to my female compatriots, but the burger itself was excellent. I ordered it medium rare, and it was a delicious, juicy piece of meat. It was a tad bit pricy at thirteen dollars, but definitely a much better choice than going to McDonald's down the road. Server was very friendly and helpful, but obviously overworked. There were three hosts, but only one bartender/server. I felt bad for him and gave a generous tip, as he was genuinely working hard and had a good attitude. With the burger, the mixed drink, beer and a tip, everything came out to thirty dollars. For the price I paid, I felt like I could have gotten a better meal in a real city, but considering this is a tourist town that rips everyone off, it's pretty solid. My final verdict is a three out of five stars, since it is A-OK.

We visited The Branch as reccomended by the Explorer Cabins. The food was disgusting and the service was worse. We had to get our own water, drinks from the bar and chase the check. Gross.

Staying in the attached hotel, grabbed a light lunch. Ordered chili and fries. The chili was pretty good. Not to spicy but still flavor. They have house made ketchup, not impressed. Also house made bbq sauce. I would have been very disappointed if I had ordered the bbq burger. Far cry from bbq sauce. It was chunky and very sweet.

Meh. There are so many other options, I'd say try something else. This place was kind-of a mess to deal with. We were staying at the Explorer Cabins in town, and there was a menu in our room: one of those table-top style displays, where it stands up and shows you the menu. One of the things on the menu was fried-chicken, which for some reason sounded really good to my Mom that night. So we called decided to call and place an order for pickup, to bring back to our cabin and eat outside by the campfire. Biggest mistake ever. We got the biggest run-around. Nobody seemed to know what to do or what was going on. The phone got passed around to like 3 or 4 different people just to take our order and tell us what to do. It was such a disaster, and totally awkward. When I got there to pickup the food, I picked it up from the bar (seems the restaurant was around closing time when we'd called to order). No problem. She rang me up there. I hung out for a few while they finished preparing our order. Someone (who I can only presume to be a Manager of some sort) came by and said she'd taken 10% off the bill since we'd gotten the run-around, which was very kind of her. We'd ordered two chicken meals for three people. When I got back with the food, there was plenty of chicken to go around. The sides were portioned very small, however. Mashed potatoes and fries had very little. The flavor of the chicken was delicious, i have to say. So if yo DO end up eating here, don't hesitate to order the fried chicken. Overall the restaurant was clean, and had a decent ambiance. Prices were a smidge high. Food was fair to decent.

Buffalo Stroganoff was the winner at out table--good flavor, lots of meat. Bison chili was good too. The Herbed Chicken was dry and tough. However, the fresh chips in a bucket and the local craft beers helped considerably.

  • Candie P.

I was reluctant to try this place because of the bad reviews, but because of the convenience of being attached to the hotel I tried it anyway. The food was actually pretty good. I was seated right away and brought complimentary chips. I ordered the bison stroganoff it was delicious, the other person had roasted chicken which he finished with no complaints. I ordered the half order of stroganoff for 14.99 and I couldn't finish my plate, the portions are more than generous. I always expect to pay a bit more when dining in small towns, I am sure it is more costly to have food delivered to remote destinations. I think everyone is being harder on this restaurant than they need to be. My 2 cents.

  • Steven D.

Food $25 Bison stroganoff The strognaoff was actually delicious but kinda pricey for the portion. The was a weird dab of sour cream on the side for some reason. I'm not a huge fan on bison because I like the fat, but the fat in the sauce works. $11 Pork belly cuban It didn't taste like a cuban at all. It tasted like fried bacon breading on top of bread. Sweet pickles? The complimentary kettle chips are garlicy, crispy, and warm. they are a little bit too salty. Decor The interior is nice, sterotypical, steakhouse vibe. Service The service was a little slow. The restaurant had ~10 tables full but it looked like there was only one server. Water wasn't refilled. Would I come here again? Nah. The only reason we went to this restaurant was because it was the closest and we were lazy. There are sure to be better choices in this area.

VERY VERY GOOD This place came with our package deal with Buffalo Tours We tried the Bison stroganoff and the Yellowstone steak it was one of the best dinners we have had in a long long time Drinks we had, long Island iced tea and the huckleberry mule drink both very very good Very very nice place Service good

Many local hotels have discount deals with this restaurant. The deals may be good enough to draw customers one time, but in my case the restaurant is not worth the return. All four in my party found significant faults with the cooking. For example, pizza dough was undercooked and sauce twice as salty. Pork chop had a nice cut one would expect from a chophouse, but the cook was a tale of two halves - half medium rare and half well done. The service was also subpar. They forgot to bring the steak knife for the pork chop and it took a while for me to find the waitress. We stayed in West Yellowstone for six days, and while none of the food was spectacular (we didn't get in to the tapas restaurant), we found better options for the same price point.

This is my first 1 start. This place isn't trying very hard. I ordered the Firehole Skillet potatoes, bison, green chillies, onions salsa and sour cream. I like my sour cream. First thing I notice no sour cream, By thine they get that the rest is cold. Then I realize my Bison skillet is laking something else BISON!!! That get me the bison meat seperatly. I'm hoping the cook gets trained or get s cup of coffee or gets over his hang over :)

  • Jessica D.

My family ate dinner here because the hotel recommended it. So glad that they did. I had the best fried chicken ever. My husband had the pork chop and loved it. We had two complaints. One, the service was abrupt and would throw stuff on the table and rush on. Not to mention forgetting to bring parts of our meal out. Second, my husband complained that his beer, which was on tap, was flat and tasted like it was from a bottle. But with the delicious food, it is easy to overlook.

Took my wife there for Valentine's day dinner and was a little nervous because the host who sat us said they were understaffed and busy, however ... Breanna did an amazing job as our server and the food was very good. I was pleasantly surprised considering this restaurant us part of the hotel, usually those are not very good. The casino part was the only letdown as they only had poker and keno games.

We had great service here, so I'm surprised by all the negative reviews. Admittedly, we arrived during the second day of the government shutdown, so I'm sure they're usually much busier. We had the game sausage appetizer with huckleberry mustard sauce and at the recommendation of the server, tried the Bison Pot Roast for dinner. Delicious! Plenty of local beers on tap and they offer a flight of them if you're interested. We went back for breakfast the next morning and the service was a bit slower, but the lone server was definitely overwhelmed. We didn't mind hanging out for longer since the snow was starting to fall and the park was closed. We once again went with a Bison dish in skillet form with some spicy chiles. Tasty! We'd go back.

The hotel we were staying at gave us a discount voucher for this restaurant. So we decided to give it a try. I was too tired to Yelp it which was my first mistake. We arrived after 8:00pm and there were every few people eating in the restaurant. The sign said to seat yourself so we did. After 15 minutes someone finally came to take our order. Our male server took our drink orders he seemed ok. But as the dinner progressed he become the worst server ever. He took our order and left. We asked another server for bread because he was no where in sight. He brought us our food without asking us if we needed anything. He seemed to be running past us. When he came to pick up our finished dinner plates we asked him if we could see the dessert menu. He dropped off the check without the dessert menu. We had him bring it to us. We ordered two desserts to share. Our peach crisp was to be warm with ice cream. It came ice cold half baked. We asked him to take it off our bill. I regret not reviewing this restaurant before we wasted our time and money. I would give a Thumbs Down....:(((((

Went here for dinner while visiting Yellowstone. Food was excellent. Trout was very very very good. Not too much mashed potatoes with it but that was a good thing. I would eat 5 lbs of them if they served the! Atmosphere was nice. Waitress was very attentive and had a great attitude. Pam is her name. Hostess was (kat) was very pleasant and showed us to our seat right away. A large party came in but that didn't stop us from having great service. Oh and the beer was good too! The train right outside the restaurant is amazing! Love that they kept the original mattress and wallpaper!

I don't drink beer so I don't need to be here. Part of the package deal was the free prime rib dinner, are you kidding me? Worst piece of meat, wish I ordered dessert and forgotten about the meal. Yes I did cry through the entire dinner but it was not over the food. The four guys hooting and hollering in the bar got quiet when they noticed a woman sobbing in the booth. They probably should have paid me to leave, service staff was a nice guy, taking care of all 8 folks in the place, slow service, could not have lowered my expectations any lower, the cocktails were not even real as they only know how to pour a beer, boo hoo. Bah humbug to these folks

Stopped in after talking to the host about gluten free. Everyone had burgers, the GF buns (dry) were nothing to write home about but burgers were good. They do not have dedicated fryers but the chef said he could bake them for us. This may not sound good, but the baked fries were crisp and generally awesome. Waitress was open that potato salad was 'bought' and would probably earn a 'meh'. Not knock your socks off food. But good, and no one was sick afterwards.

The bison stroganoff was tasty and husband enjoyed the elk osso bucco. This is the decide time we've eaten here. Really good food in a town known for poor to average tourist food.

If your only other option was to actually eat a branch, I would say you should eat at the branch. Their food isn't bad, but not amazing. Their menu is modest. Our breakfast took almost half an hour. There were 8 of us, but the dining room was empty for quite awhile after we arrived. Despite having a trainee, service wasn't bad. A server was a little crass in telling us about their bartender that had just been fired for not properly checking IDs. Stuff happens. It was all just so ho-hum.

Nothing to write home about but a decent lunch with good service. Actually really good service. A tad pricey but it is in a hotel in a tourist town...

Just checked in the hotel and want to have some rest for tomorrow. Didn't bother check yelp which was a huge mistake. The food and service were so bad that my lunch in Burgerking taste and feel like 5 star hotel. I watched the full 1st period of the NBA miami VS SA game before our food was on the table. THE 12oz prime rib came with 6oz of fat. As for the trout and chicken meal, we finished the fries.

This place was not bad. I feel that they could have a few more selections on their menu. There was either inexpensive burgers or very pricey dinners - nothing in between. We got burgers - they were good but nothing exceptional - I expected a little bit better from someplace that seems slightly more upscale than the cabin type cafes and what not. We are at the barn and were served by James the barn tender. He did great, was honest about time and helped us choose and try a couple of beers we had never tasted and had great advice on wines. It was not a bad experience at all, but nothing over the top either.

Room was clean but had an odd smell...really don't expect that at $259/night++. Good thing I used points and wasn't actually paying for the room. Ordered take away from the restaurant (room service in a holiday inn seemed weird). Bison pot roast was really good. My wife got the chicken & potatoes for $16 but when I got to the room an opened it there was only a 1/4 chicken in the box. Great. I went back downstairs and mentioned it to the hostess who first said the entree sized potion only came with chicken. Really!? Then I had her actually look at the menu. Seeing her "mistake" she took the menu back to the kitchen to find out what happened. Turns out they were out of potatoes so they substituted broccoli...but forgot to give it to me or tell me. WTF? In the end $40 for a snack. Go elsewhere. Like the other review said, what do you expect at a Holiday Inn?

  • Handsome J.

Yellowstone is closed right now, so things are slow. $4 22oz pints during happy hour are dangerous, and delicious. The food was good, although the stuffed chicken seemed a bit small for the price. Burgers and sandwiches that were ordered were great. Our server was pleasant and attentive.

  • James R.

DO NOT EAT HERE! There is definitely a reason why they have a 2 star rating. The service is terrible, and the food is even worse. We were given a coupon for free wings so we thought we would try it out because we had some time to kill. We had wings and their wild game sausage platter. The next day we were throwing up every 30 minutes during our 12 hour drive back to Colorado. Stay away!

I ordered the prime rib meal gluten and dairy free. Our amazing sister brought out the sous chef who specialized a meal plan for me. They normally bring bread for a starter without even asking we were brought house made potato chips which were delicious. My meal came in a good time and was delicious. Our waiter was amazingly accommodating. Great atmosphere.

Stayed at the Holiday inn Oct. 17, thought it would be great to have dinner at The Branch. The hotel gave me and my buddy complimentary drinks too. Walked in Hostess says we will have to wait 10-15 minutes to be seated when there was 8 tables that seat 4 opened and already set with glasses and silverware. Or sit at the bar when clearly there was no room for us. So we asked if we could just go sit down at the table, "Yeah you will have to wait for your menus". Waiter came up promptly with water, the the hostess showed up with the potato chip things (awesome!), and those menus we were going to have to wait for? Well we ordered our free drinks right away. Then the food a couple of minutes later. The waiter said let me check on those drinks for you. He walked right up to them by his computer till, and walked right away from them. He would walk at a fast pace then act like he was breaking out into a run for 5 steps to someone's table. After 35+ minutes of no food, and watching those free drinks ice melt completely. I looked at my buddy and said to bad we ordered, or I would leave. He got up put his coat on, did the nod, and out the door we went. Walked to Wild West Pizzeria & Saloon, at least here we got our picture of beer in less than 2 minutes! The Branch is the pits.

Friendly server, anxious to please. Too bad the cook and the menu failed him (and us). We had visited the Branch under previous ownership and had an adequate experience, taking into account that W. Yellowstone is not a hotbed of haute cuisine. I ordered the Cajun Linguine, came with two shrimp, no andouille and was covered in grated cheddar cheese. First time I have ever had cheddar cheese in anything named Cajun. The whole thing was a gelatinous tasteless mess. My wife had the Branch Burger with a side of baked beans. Burger arrived raw and the baked beans looked and tasted just like Idaho's finest Russet french fries. Which they were. The ketchup bottle she was given had no ketchup in it. She asked for some horseradish mayonnaise but was told by the waiter he wasn't allowed to give her any. Go to Wild West Pizza instead. Recommendation: KFC or Burger King.

West Yellowstone is where everything is overpriced and hotels and restaurants under deliver. The Branch was no exception. We shared some nachos and a burger. Both were incredibly ordinary. Our waiter reminded us numerous times that he had just driven out from the East Coast. Unless you can stay in Yellowstone National Park, this town, unfortunately, is one of few alternatives.
